Riesen Chocolate Caramels: A Bite of Heaven

Riesen Chocolate Caramels: A Bite of Heaven

If you’ve been following our blog for a while now, you know how much we love candy. But there’s probably nothing we love more than chocolate or caramel. While we love fruity candies and hard candies, when it comes down to it, our hands will always reach for that chocolate or caramel – or better yet, both.

This is why we love Riesen Chocolate Caramels. They’re like when your two favourite celebrities start dating – our two favourite things coming together to create pure goodness. We’ve been long time fans of Riesen Chocolate Caramels in particular. First of all, they come individually wrapped, which is perfect for busy people like us, because we can take a couple and simply throw them in our bag to snack on while we’re out and about. We also love their taste. They’re a dark caramel covered in dark chocolate, which means we get to justify binging on them because hey, it’s dark chocolate! And dark chocolate is good for you! You know, antioxidants and all that.

These candies originated in Germany, all the way back in the 1940s. People couldn’t get enough of the soft, chewy mix of chocolate and caramel. They were introduced to North America in the 1990’s, and thank goodness! We honestly don’t know what we would do without these yummy treats.

Since we seem to reach for these on a daily (sometimes hourly) basis, we wanted to see if we could make them even better (tough goal, we know). So, we freeze-dried them! How did they turn out? You’re going to want to read this.

Freeze-drying the Riesen Chocolate Caramels was like making an edible bite of heaven. They turned into these delicious chocolatey puffs. The caramel center turned crispy, and the chocolate exterior makes it even crunchier. It was truly perfect! Our rating? 5 stars!

So which one do we like better – the original or the freeze-dried version? Honestly, we can’t choose (and please don’t make us). We loved both! The taste is delectable in both forms, but they’re just such different experiences. The original is a soft bite of perfection, and the freeze-dried version is a crunchy bite of heaven. Who could choose between those two? We know we can’t.

We recommend giving both a try. Freeze-dried or not, they really are mouth-watering. Sweet and chocolatey, you can’t help but close your eyes and savour the taste!
