Christmas Rum Cake: Time for Christmas Cheer

Christmas Rum Cake: Time for Christmas Cheer

Christmas, Christmas time is near, time for toys and time for cheer!

Oh, the holidays! No matter how old we get, Christmas time will always hold a very special place in our hearts. The snow is on the ground, the Christmas tree is up, you’re surrounded by friends and family, and everybody’s spirits are lifted (that typical Christmas-stress aside).

It really is the time for toys and time for cheer. But here at that sweet lyfe, we like to add another lyric – time for Christmas rum cake! This holiday season, we made sure to add Christmas rum cake to our holiday spread. It is quite simply delicious.

Christmas rum cake originated in the Caribbean, and has been a popular holiday dessert there for ages. There are many variations of the dessert in different countries. In the 1970’s, Caribbean rum cakes started to become a more popular holiday dessert in North America as well, and nowadays, many families enjoy this delicious dessert every Christmas season.

That includes us. We honestly can’t get enough of Christmas rum cake. With a golden yellow cake, rum, and vanilla pudding, this cake hits the spot every time. It’s made our holidays a hit.

So we decided to conduct another little experiment and see if we could freeze-dry our holiday favourite. Want to know what happened? Keep reading!

Freeze-drying this Christmas rum cake completely transformed its texture. Picture the texture of almond biscotti – this was sort of like that. Overall, it really was great, but if you’re going to give it a try, just remember to cut it into a very, very thin slice – otherwise, you might end up with a rock hard bite. Our rating: 5 stars!

So which version of this classic Christmas treat do we recommend – the original, or the freeze-dried version? Honestly, we could go either way with this one. The original is the perfect cake to eat during the holiday season, and will be a staple part of our Christmas dinner for years to come. But the freeze-dried version is excellent to pair with a tea or a coffee, and a nice new twist on this classic.

We recommend giving both a try! Either way, you’ll be sure to feel the Christmas cheer.

We want to give you all a huge thank you for following along on our blog this year! We hope you had a fabulous Christmas and have a great celebration to ring in 2023. Make sure you come back next year to read all about the other crazy things we’ve tried in the freeze drier. We have a lot in store, and you’re not going to want to miss it!
